Buck Curran “The Long Distance” CD (Eiderdown)

This album of intense introspective analog synthesizer music brings to mind soundtracks that have accompanied movies directed by Ridley Scott or Werner Herzog’s use of Popol Vuh’s music to accompany his cinematic landscapes. Other than ‘Prometheus’ the entire album was created and recorded during an 18 hour period between 9:00am on 24 March and 2:00am 25 March.The themes touch base on my Scottish-Irish heritage (May Morning), my father, uncles, and other family members who served in the military during the Vietnam War (Quang Tri Province, The Fall of Saigon), my old neighbourhood in Detroit (Hazel Park) where I grew up, and memories of my grandmother (Florence Curran) who passed away suddenly when I was entering my teens. On 24 March while recording most of this album, I added layers of Synth to an acoustic guitar recording I made in February 2022; a song made one beautiful morning while spending time with my daughter Lucia.
