This project engages with the sonic content of so-called structural films of the 1960s and 1970s, a group of avant-garde works that emphasize the material elements of film—frame, editing, projection, light, and duration—over conventional narrative. After watching countless low-quality copies on a variety of dubious media platforms—and still sensing their remarkable power—he became especially attuned to the mechanical rhythms of projectors, the hiss and crackle of magnetic tape transfers, and the ambient noise of playback environments. Over time, these degraded sonic traces were selected, extracted, and recombined into a sound collage, where new resonances emerge through careful layering and juxtaposition.
