Meadow Argus “Dreams Are Another Doorway” CDR (Kirigirisu)

$7.00
Close your eyes and breathe deep. Feel the rays of a blood-orange sun on your face. It’s time to enter the sleepy world of Meadow Argus.
Eight dreamy tape pieces summon up light dappling through a dense horse chestnut canopy. Sounds wobble as golden ovals skid across the lush green grass.
Time stretches like soft tarmacadam, sticky and warm and granular as each piece drips quietly into your ears.|
But this is no random collection of nostalgia-bombs. The Meadow Argus, one Tynan Krakoff, handles their tape loops and recorders like an experienced moss-wizard.
They leave their ferric sounds to ferment in bubbling puddles. The subtle fizz of an organ, the sinister crystalline tinkle of a music box are layered with intimate found and personal recordings. Voices are a ghostly mist gradually burning away to reveal an emerald city in the distance.
Boundless Seas and Desert Fox are gossamer light but unapologetically maximal in their sound, each layering fragrant smoke into towering clouds. Negative space is explored in You’re Moving in Slow Motion, opening up gaps to breathe, the dub absence becomes the punctuation between disembodied voices.

A heavy burden of memory is peeled back during Down to the Ground as meaning reveals itself like a clockwork crossword puzzle. But it’s the perfectly timed closer Satsuma that tugs at my heart with just the right touch to release sweet, salty tears.
