Frank Baugh continues to be one of the most unique voices in the American underground. With his longtime project, Sparkling Wide Pressure, laid to rest, Night Sky Body (the title of a 2016 SWP tape) continues the guitar-and-everything-but-the-kitchen-sink/stream-of-consciousness/dream-journal-vocals of his former project and turns up the darkness. Like if Boredoms became a moon-worshipping goth band playing shows at the Twin Peaks Roadhouse, or if Coil had picked up Sonic Youth’s guitars instead of synthesizers, Night Sky Body deftly conjures up a singular vision of noisy, dark, strange, gorgeous outsider music. If “Songs In The Key Of Z” were to receive an update, Baugh’s work would surely be included.
